Air Conditioning & Regas

Does your air-con feel like it’s just pushing warm air around?

Do you dread the fuel bill every time you switch the air conditioning on?

Perhaps its time for an air conditioning regas.  Like any other part in your vehicle, your air conditioning needs maintenance to work properly.

Over 10% of air conditioning gas escapes from your system every year so over time it may not work as well as it should.  No one wants to be sweating it out in their car when the mercury starts rising. This is why car manufacturers recommend your air-con system is recharged with gas and lubricant every year.

Your car air conditioning system is a complicated system that needs a proper fill of refrigerant and compressor oil to maintain it's proper working order.

How Poorly Performing Air Conditioning Can Affect You...

  • Uses more fuel - your car uses more fuel when the air-con is on and, if the system isn’t working efficiently, you’re paying for a benefit you’re not getting. Your air con is working just as hard, but without the results!
  • Winter safety hazard - takes longer to demist your windscreen in winter which can be a safety hazard
  • Costly repairs - if your aircon is blowing warm air you could be doing costly damage if you continue to operate the system because the A/C Compressor isn’t getting proper lubrication

What is involved in an Air Conditioning Regas?

Air conditioning regassing, refilling or recharging is not part of any routine vehicle servicing.  The good news is that its not expensive and can often be done while you wait.

Clean out the system

A complete evacuation is done of the system to flush out all liquids.

Test for Problems

Test the system to see if there any leaks that are causing problems.

Regas or Recharge

Fill with the precise amount of refrigerant as per manufacturer's guide.

If your vehicle is more than 2 years old you should consider having the air conditioning system re-gassed with refrigerant. It's also a smart idea to get a bacteria clean treatment at the same time as air con systems can be reservoirs for mould and bacteria.

If your air conditioning is losing its potency, even after topping it off, then you probably have a leak. That's why we include a quick test as part of our air con servicing process.
