LPG Gas Tune - What to Do
Your LPG gas system on your car generally needs to have a gas tune up twice a year. The ideal time is at the change of season.
Not getting this right can have a big effect on your fuel economy and the stability of how your engine operates.
When doing a gas tune up, its important to pick a workshop that can do the job properly. This is not only about what they'll do during a gas tune up (your service should include checking that supporting parts like air cleaners, spark plugs and ignition leads are working properly).

Once you've worked out the operation of the system, the next step is to work out what make it is. This can have a big effect on how the system is accessed. Some of the later systems are tuned by a laptop running a special program. You also need to be able to access these systems and will need the correct cable to do so (not all workshops have these).
What to expect with an Auto Edge Gas Tune
You car is test driven and special attention is paid to any faults that the driver may have experienced, particularly if the car has backfired.
Gas Analyser Test
Emissions from the car are tested using a 5 gas analyser. The results of this test determine whether an adjustment is needed or any mechanical repairs are required. This is because it shows how the engine is breathing. Things that will show up on this simple test are air leaks, valve adjustment, engine compression, engine misfires, condition of the exhaust system and much more.
The gas regulator or convertor are tested to see if they are operating at the correct temperature. This is done using a thermal imaging camera. Sometimes extra tests are required to further diagnose the full extent of the problem and its not uncommon to have more than one fault. If any faults are found, we then contact you to let you know and get your permission before going further.
Spark Plug Test
The spark plugs are electronically tested to determine the serviceability of the plugs, leads and coils.
The air induction side is tested and air filter is checked.
Injected System Check
On an injected system the vehicle is connected to a laptop and we can access any recorded faults. This test also measures the operation of the petrol system and things like gas pressures and stability of gas delivery.
Ignition timing is check and if the car is fitted with an access port, the vehicle is scanned.
Any parts required are changed. This is only done after you have given your permission.
Tuned to Specifications
The vehicle is then tuned and the parameters are brought back into the correct specifications.
Other Problems Areas Highlighted
Any other faults detected are recorded and you will be advised (this may not be directly related to your gas tune up but can affect the safety and performance of your car, for example, oil leaks etc)
Final Test Drive
A final test drive is completed and a final exhaust emissions test is performed. This is done to ensure that every drop of fuel is being used correctly.
